Tucked away on the north-western shore of Lake Garda, Limone sul Garda is a picture-perfect Italian village that exudes charm at every turn. I recently had the joy of spending a few days here, and it quickly became one of my favourite escapes in Italy.
Arriving by ferry, the first thing that struck me was how the town seems to spill down the mountainside, with pastel-coloured houses clinging to steep slopes and terraced lemon groves. The name "Limone" fittingly comes from its historic lemon cultivation, and the old limonaie (lemon houses) are still beautifully preserved – I highly recommend a visit to the Limonaia del Castel for a peaceful wander among citrus-scented gardens and sweeping views of the lake.
Limone's lakeside promenade is a joy to stroll, lined with quaint cafés, boutiques, and blooming flowers. I spent many leisurely hours here, sipping cappuccinos and watching the sunlight dance on the water. The relaxed pace of life here is infectious – everything slows down in the best possible way.
For a bit of adventure, I rented a bike and took on the Ciclopista del Garda, a spectacular cliffside cycling path that offers jaw-dropping vistas and a thrilling ride above the lake. It’s an experience I won’t soon forget.
Evenings in Limone are especially magical, with soft lighting casting a warm glow on the cobbled streets and the gentle lapping of waves setting the tone for al fresco dinners. I savoured fresh lake fish paired with a crisp local white wine as the sun dipped behind the mountains.
Limone sul Garda is a true hidden gem – peaceful, picturesque, and steeped in authentic Italian charm
