Retirement had always been a gateway to new adventures for us. This time, we chose to dive into the vibrant tapestry of India, embarking on a 4-week journey that promised to be a trip to remember.

Our adventure began in Delhi, where the chaos of the streets was a thrilling introduction. The historic Red Fort and the majestic India Gate stood as testaments to the city's rich past. We wandered through bustling markets, haggling for souvenirs, and sampled some fantastic street food.

From Delhi, we journeyed to the sacred city of Varanasi. Watching the sunrise over the Ganges River was a spiritual experience. The evening aarti ceremony was a hypnotic spectacle of lights and chants, leaving us both moved and mesmerised.

Next, we headed to Agra, home to the iconic Taj Mahal. No photo could do justice to its beauty, especially at dawn when the marble seemed to glow. Exploring the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri further deepened our appreciation for Mughal architecture.

Rajasthan was our next stop, where Jaipur's pink-hued palaces and Jodhpur's blue-washed houses provided a visual treat. Udaipur, with its serene lakes and opulent City Palace, offered a tranquil respite.

Our journey continued south to Kerala, a world away from the north's frenetic pace. Cruising the backwaters on a traditional houseboat was pure bliss, surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil waters.

We concluded our trip in Goa, where golden beaches and Portuguese-influenced architecture provided a perfect ending. Sipping feni while watching the sunset over the Arabian Sea was a moment of pure contentment.

Four weeks flew by, but the memories of India's colours, sounds, and flavours will stay in our hearts forever. For any retirees looking to rediscover their sense of wonder, India offers an unforgettable journey.
