Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is somewhere that people often stop when they are travelling from the UK to long haul destinations such as Australia and New Zealand, but the city has plenty to offer those who have time to explore.

Here are three things to do in Kuala Lumpur whether you are there on holiday of for a short stopover.

Visit the Petronas Twin Towers

You can’t miss the Petronas Twin Towers when you visit Kuala Lumpur as they dominate the city’s skyline. These two identical glass and steel clad skyscrapers stand at 451.9 metres tall and were built to show that Malaysia is a global player.

The towers can be marveled at from below but you can also travel up them and enjoy views of the city from the skybridge and observation deck if you are brave enough!

Have a shopping spree

Kuala Lumpur is a shopaholic’s dream as you will be able to find everything from handicrafts and souvenirs in the popular flea markets to mid-range and high-end brands throughout the huge shopping centres.

If it is Malaysian goods that you would like to take home you should opt for handmade items that you can discover in the markets, traditional batik prints, or original artwork which may be displayed in art galleries which can be found among the market stalls.

Travel to the Batu Caves

The Batu Caves are a 30 minute drive from Kuala Lumpur city centre and are definitely worth a visit if you have time, not only because of the giant gold statue that stands outside.

The main temple can be found in a limestone cave at the top of 272 steps, which can be difficult to climb in the hot seasons, but when you reach the temple you will be amazed at what you see and will soon forget what it took to get there.

These are just three things to do in Kuala Lumpur, but there are certainly a whole range of other activities in the city and nearby that you will be able to enjoy when you visit this vibrant destination.
