Exploring new cuisines is a fantastic part of travelling, and can help you to discover new tastes and ingredients, plus give you an insight into the country’s culture too.
There are loads of great places you can go where food is one of the main parts of the travel experience, and here are three of our favourites.
Japan
Japanese food hasn’t always been popular around the world, but in recent years it has become a firm favourite with many people, and traditional Japanese cuisine has even been recognised by UNESCO as being an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
With meals that often combine noodles, fresh fish, and vegetables, Japan has a whole range of cuisine options that differ depending on which regions you decide to visit. You could even organise your holiday to Japan around great places to eat!
But if you only visit one Japanese city for food you should make it Tokyo, as this vibrant city has more Michelin stars than any other, and boasts an amazing 160,000 restaurants.
France
The number one destination for food and wine lovers, France is home to lots of great food tours, vineyards to explore, and markets to wander around, so you are sure to find plenty of food related activities to keep you entertained.
Many of the foods you find in French cuisine are good for your health, such as fish, fruit, vegetables, and olive oil, so you don’t need to feel too guilty when you sit down for a meal, unless you are accompanying your food with an impressive amount of wine!
Morocco
For fans of more exotic tasting food, Morocco could be the perfect place for your foodie holiday, as many of their dishes contain blends of spices which are sure to excite your taste buds.
Best known for a traditional tajine, a slow cooked stew made with meat, vegetables, and an aromatic sauce, Morocco also offers a range of thick, spicy soups, fresh salads, and delicious couscous too!
With so many great places to visit if you’re looking for a foodie holiday, you are sure to be spilt for choice!
